Healing Earth Bath & Body Products
Skincare Philosophy
HEBB started with manufacturing soaps, bars and liquid based on vegetable oils, predominantly, Shea butter
We blended these vegetable oils with additives such as medicinal herbs, exfoliating agents and pure therapeutic grade essential oils to address specific skin and hair conditions.
These soaps are free of synthetic surfactants , preservatives, colorants and fragrances.
They are very mild.
They do not strip the skin of its natural oils.
They do not damage the skin’s natural barrier.
They retain moisturize in the skin.
The mild and gentle cleansing of the skin is a very important first step before the use of toning and moisturizing products.. thus prevents transporting environmental pollutants from the outside of the skin to the inner layers of the epidermis.
Cleansers, body washes and facial cleansers can contribute a lot towards a healthy skin.. Unfortunately they cannot penetrate dee0 enough into the outer skin and within the epidermis. They also do not carry enough valuable fatty acids and active ingredients. There is therefore the need for natural skincare products like moisturizing lotions , creams and anhydrous body butters.
Since these natural skincare products penetrate the skim much deeper than than bath soaps, one has to be very careful concerning the choice of ingredients in their formulation.
Depending on the sensitivity of the user, one could get allergic reactions after a period of time and the product use must then stop.
We at HEBB know the selection of ingredients is of utmost importance.
Our Job
Our job then is to find the substances which have the ability to retain moisture in the horned layer and. Transport nutrients and active ingredients into the skin, thus supporting hydration.
How others do it and why.?
Mineral oils, petrolatum (Vaseline), microcrystalline waxes and silicones are very stable products. They have a very great shelf -life and will normally not react with the skin, thus not cause too many allergic reactions. When applied these mineral oil based products form an impermeable film (occlusive effect) whisk is not water soluble. These water insoluble mineral oils can attack the acidic mantle of the skin and permanently damage the antimicrobial protection film. As a result, in particular babies and young children can become very susceptible to allergies.
Although these products are used in huge quantities to moisturize the skin, the ultimate result is just the opposite.
High concentrations of mineral oils can push back the skin’s lipid barrier which will reduce the moisture content in the skin and result in dry and cracked skin.
Mineral oils are also not able to support the retention of moisture and the transport of nutrients and active ingredients into the skin, thus not supporting hydration.
These products might nevertheless be found in the dermatological treatment of certain skin issues, but are certainly not a good choice to skincare.
What’s the meaning of all these..?
Most importantly, we have to find ingredients that work in harmony with nature , and are compatible with the skin to avoid sensitization and allergic reaction.
Allergies have been well researched and products that are likely to cause allergic reactions are known. Preservatives, perfumes and fragrances rank amongst the top culprits. Polyethylene- glycol -derivatives which are often used as emulsifiers or in shampoos and body washes as surfactants (SLES).
They enhance the permeability of the skin, which theoretically at first glance is very positive but in practice means that environmental plutants and toxins can penetrate into the skin and cause secondary allergic reactions.
We select skin- friendly substances oils and fats
How we do it and why.?
For natural skin care products, we select ingredients and raw materials that complement and support each other-
Food grade fats and oils
therapeutic grade essential oils
Natural and organic additives
They have to be able to put moisture into the skin and help retain it in the skin
They also have to contribute to restructuring and replenishing the lipid layer, which is important for the balanced moisture levelin the horned layer.
All substances have to be carefully selected for their specific effects on a particular skin condition and their interaction between each other and the skin.
It’s important that we stimulate the skin’s natural process.
The skin has the amazing ability to react to changes from the inside and outside, in order to balance, protect and restructure itself.
Our products need to support these regulatory processes without obstruction .
Natural skincare products therefore have to be based on a good understanding of how the skin works and a clear knowledge what the substances in our products can contribute towards a skin which is balanced, healthy and functional.
That’s our trump card at HEBB
